About us
Perched at an altitude of almost 600 m, this castle dating back to 1172 is certainly not in the best shape in the world, and its ruins are there to prove it. Louis XI's armies were responsible for its destruction in 1479. Acquired by the commune of Mirebel in 2002 (a few years later...), an association of volunteers is working hard to consolidate and promote this historic site. Under the name PHM - Patrimoine Historique de Mirbel - this association is supported by the town council and the département, among others. In addition to its repertory and consolidation work, the association also runs cultural and educational events for schools and tourists.
A signposted botanical trail takes you up to the château and continues around the site, allowing you to take your time. Around 100 plant species are listed, each with a sign. What better way to raise awareness of their fragility...?
