BRESSE DU JURA, A LAND OF PONDS AND FORESTS
Mainly forested and dotted with numerous ponds of varying sizes, the Bresse du Jura is a green zone par excellence. Humid and wild, it is a mysterious and unspoilt place for hikers. Deciduous trees abound in the forests, as do the ponds. The trees confine the view and give the landscape a wild, once impenetrable appearance. The ponds come into direct contact with them. The whole blends harmoniously, creating a rich environment of fragile biodiversity and remarkable flora and fauna.
NO POND WITHOUT FISH FARMING
Fish farming is much more than just fishing with nets! It's also about know-how, history and a major role for the environment. Fish farming has been a profession in its own right since the Middle Ages. A human heritage, it maintains wetlands and the biodiversity that surrounds ponds through precise skills that have remained unchanged for centuries (mowing, fishing, drying up, etc.).
NATURA 2000: 80% OF THE TERRITORY
Ponds and forests are a natural heritage in their own right. With their well-preserved flora and fauna, they embody a true wilderness. The Bresse du Jura is also the subject of several environmental protection measures. All are grouped under a single label: "Natura 2000".
This European label is an important recognition of the diversity and fragility of the biodiversity found around our ponds. What's more, this label covers a large part of the region. Thirty communes (out of thirty-seven) are included in the Natura 2000 site of the Bresse jurassienne!
